High Schools throughout the Hemet Unified School District have announced their valedictorians and salutatorians for the Class of 2016. HUSD calculates these honors using a formula where the student’s grade point average (GPA) and SAT scores are multiplied. Due to the formula, these top honors may be awarded to students whose GPA’s are lower than other candidates.
College Prep High School is pleased to announce this year’s Valedictorian: Adam Gobran. His GPA is 4.0 and his SAT score is 2080. Adam has completed three college courses while attending College Prep HS. He was an active member of ASB and participated in Robotics his sophomore year. Adam’s high level of achievement and determination has allowed him to be accepted into his top choice college, University of Toronto. He made his college selection based on the country where he lived during his youth. Adam will be pursuing a degree in chemistry or physics.
CPHS’s Salutatorian is Nathanael Reed. Nathanael’s GPA is 3.96 and his SAT score is 1820. Nathanael has also completed three college courses through Mt. San Jacinto Community College. He has been an active member of ASB since his sophomore year and led the school as ASB President this year. He plans to attend Cal Baptist University to earn his degree in Business Administration. He would like to eventually open his own business.
Tahquitz High School’s Valedictorian for the class of 2016 is Kyle Pagdayunan. Kyle earned a GPA of 4.36 and SAT score of 2230. Throughout Kyle's four years at Tahquitz High School he has excelled at many upper level classes and extracurricular activities. Kyle has passed every Advanced Placement (AP) test that he has attempted and is taking multiple Dual Enrollment classes each semester. His honors include being a member of California Scholarship Federation (CSF) and National Honor Society (NHS). He is a four-year Letterman in tennis, a two-year participant in the Solar Cup Challenge, Academic Decathlon, Project Lead the Way (engineering), and robotics. He has earned multiple school awards as an underclassman including Honor Roll with Academic Distinction, Honor Court, and various departmental awards. Kyle aspires to attend UCLA and study aeronautical engineering.
Dayoung Lee will represent Tahquitz High School as the Salutatorian with a GPA of 4.33 and SAT score of 2200. Dayoung has been active in various campus leadership opportunities including being the Executive Lieutenant Governor of Key Club for our region. Additionally, Dayoung is a member of CSF and NHS, a recipient of the State Seal of Biliteracy, has taken multiple Advanced Placement classes and is currently taking Dual Enrollment classes each semester. In years past, she has been involved in the dance program, received various departmental awards, and has been awarded the Honor Roll with Academic Distinction. Dayoung has also been a member of the Honor Court and plans to study sociology or psychology at UCLA.
Hemet High School’s senior class of 575 students is led by Dawei Huang. Dawei earned Valedictorian honors with his GPA of 4.45 and SAT score 2310. Dawei has been actively involved for the past four years in the tennis program and as an A team member of our Academic Decathlon. He currently is Vice President of Associated Student Body (ASB). Dawei has won multiple awards and recognitions during his time at Hemet High, including four years as a Presidential Gold Award for Academic Excellence. After high school his goal is to attend Stanford University and study computer science.
Representing Hemet High as the Salutatorian Alexis Peralta with a GPA of 4.42 and a SAT score of 2160. Alexis has participated for four years with Math League and is a two-year member of California Scholarship Federation and Mock Trial. She is an AP Scholar with Distinction, a Scholar Athlete, a member of Daisy Chain and two-year recipient of the President's Education Award. She hopes to attend Columbia University and study Engineering.
Hamilton High School is proud to present Clint Packard as Valedictorian. Clint has scored a total SAT score of 1950 and plans to attend Seattle University. Clint has been an instrumental participant in numerous clubs, service projects, and community organizations. Clint is a founding member and officer of the H.O.P.E. club which frequently shares presentations to new students and at school assemblies. They communicate positive messages throughout the entire school community which entail anti-bullying, equality, and tolerance. As Vice President of the National Honor Society, Clint has led school-wide blood drives for the Red Cross and holiday drives for local families in need. His involvement in the Christian Youth Theatre (CYT) has yielded a CYT IMPROV team berth in the 2015 national competition. Many young people look up to Clint as they attempt to log community service reflective of Clint’s unprecedented 1,400 hours.
Hamilton High School is honored to recognize SeanKwan Yoo as this year’s Salutatorian. SeanKwan carries a GPA of 4.0 and scored a combined 1660 on the SAT. He plans to attend one of the Cal Poly schools to major in engineering. SeanKwan has been very active during his high school career as a member of the basketball, track, and cross country teams. He has earned numerous perfect attendance awards and a first place finish in the AMC math competition.
West Valley High School announced Kriti Kumar as its Valedictorian. Her current GPA is 4.28and received an SAT score of 2290. She is excited to continue her education at Columbia University where she has already been accepted. She is still undecided on what she will major in, but is excited to take a variety of classes to find what she is truly passionate about. She has taken various Advanced Placement classes, Varsity Tennis Captian, participates in yearbook, South Asian Student Union, Link Crew and is the Senior Class Vice President. She is also in the Hindu Society of the Inland Empire and participated in a non-profit Sankara Eye Foundation which provides eye surgeries for the blind in India.
Astha Patel was selected as West Valley’s Salutatorian. Her GPA is 4.09 and achieved a 2140 on her SATs. She hopes to attend either University of Southern California (USC) or University of the Pacific. Her goal is to major in the biological sciences or pre-dentistry, but hasn’t decided which. Throughout her high school career, she has participated in swim, tennis, South Asian Student Union, Link Crew, CSF, Mustang Maniacs, and works with the Red Cross.
